Measuring

Measuring your windows for blinds is very simple.  There’s only one question to answer first:

Do you want your blinds to fit inside the window recess, or to overlap it?

1. I Want My Blind To Fit Inside The Window Recess.

This is the most popular and the simplest option.

Simply measure the width then the drop of the recess, as shown.  Make a note of these measurements, preferably in millimetres (mm).

Deduct 10mm from the total height and width measurements, to allow the blind to fit within the recess.

2. I Want My Blind To Cover The Recess.

Measure the width and the drop according to where you want the blind to sit.

Normally, we suggest that you add about 50mm each side of the recess – 100mm extra width altogether.  Then also add 70 to 80mm above the window recess, plus around 50mm below – a total of 120 to 130mm extra drop.  We’ve shown this in the diagram:

Buying Your Fabric

Always buy 400-500mm longer than your measurements. This lets us make sure your blind is straight to the pattern, and allows for any hems you’ll need.
